Hello Everyone,
My name is Michael Van Someren, but the students call me Mr. V. I currently hold a B.A. in English/Language Arts and Literature along with Elementary Education from Grand Valley State University. I have been teaching 3rd through 5th grade at Unity Christian School since 2005 and have been acting administrator since 2007. I am currently a member of the 1st Reformed Church of Witchert in St. Anne, IL. I have loved being at Unity since my interview with the board two years ago. I believe teaching is a calling that Christ lays upon ones heart, and I am very thankful that I was chosen to receive that call. Unity has been a blessing for me and I certainly feel the Lord's hand at work within its walls.
Secondly, last summer I married a wonderful woman by the name of Elizabeth DeGroot who is also a teacher. She currently teaches 6th grade in the Bourbonnais Public School District. The Lord brought us together through mutual friends of the church and school. I am very thankful to be sharing my life with such an amazing person.
Along, with serving at Unity. I am an acting certified Firefighter II firefighter and Chaplain with the Momence Fire Protection District and Illinois Terrorism Task Force. I have been an active firefighter and Chaplain for 4 years and continue to serve.
Lastly, the Lord has called me to serve in his kingdom in a number of ways. As a teacher, administer, and firefighter my goal is to serve all those the Lord sets before me. He has blessed me with amazing families and friends since I moved to Illinois from Michigan, and my prayer is that through all I do the Lord's light shines through.
